APA is an organization dedicated to the support and promotion of the Professional Photographer and Image Maker. Our mission is to establish, endorse, and promote professional practices, standards, and ethics in the photographic and advertising community. We seek to mentor, motivate, educate and inspire in the pursuit of excellence. Our aim is to champion and speak as one common voice for Professional Photographers and Image Makers to the advertising industry in the United States and the World.

Advertising Photographers of America was started in New York in 1981 by a group of independent advertising and commercial photographers concerned about the future of their industry. Chapters of the organization now serve communities of commercial photographers in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, San Diego and San Francisco. APA National was formed in 1985 to coordinate the work of the chapters and to serve in an advocacy role. All APA chapters are independently managed and funded, and work together as members of APA National. Twenty years after its formation, APA has matured and offers many benefits to its members. The fundamental reason APA exists remains the same -- as individual photographers and image makers, we have little or no power to change our industry; united as a group, we have strength. Our industry deserves a united voice. You can help.

Professional photographers benefit practically and financially every day from a membership in APA/NY. Programs and services from the New York chapter are designed to help you succeed in every aspect of your business. They help you save money and show you how to make it. We provide education through business seminars, workshops, special events, and the Member's Business Handbook; protection through major medical, disability and business insurance; business and financial connections; and the benefits of association with your peers and events created to help you network with related industry groups. And the benefits don't stop there. You will also be part of the collective voice that is dedicated to maintaining and improving the marketplace for professional photographers.

The APA/NY office, located in the heart of the Photo District, is a magnet for professional image makers from all over the world. With membership in APA/NY, photographers invest in their immediate and future careers. Throughout the year our office works to provide members with all information and manpower necessary to facilitate their work.
